The Ordinance of the Lord's Supper

What is its Purpose?

Remembrance

Jesus said "Do this in remembrance of me". In partaking of the bread we remember the suffering of Christ. The wine reminds us of His blood shed on the cross. It is the cup of the new covenant which promises forgiveness of sins and assurance of salvation.

Who may Participate?

All who confess Christ as Lord

What is the Preparation?

True preparation for the Lord's Supper begins with self-examination. This is to prepare, not preclude the participant.

Individuals should first examine their own relationship with the Lord and confess any known sin.

What is the Procedure?

The observance of the Lord's Supper is to be simple not elaborate. It is important that we see the bread and cup typify the body and blood of Christ. We are to be occupied with Him, not the nature of the material symbols. Christians participate by singing Psalms, hymns or spiritual songs accompanied by musical instruments allowing for variety and creativity as the Holy Spirit directs. The observance of the Lord's Supper is to be done decently and in good order.
